This rocky and remote region of Spain is the cradle of intense and flavorful reds, that many wine writers and collectors consider to be Spain's most elite wines.
The hilly rocky terrain, slate soil and leafy green vineyards fill this rural region in southern Spain. The beautiful geographical contour of the landscape means that the vines here are planted in steep terraces at altitudes ranging from 100m to 700m above sea level... these terraces seem to be drawn onto the land and climb up the hillsides in neat curving rows, they look like enormous staircases, creating a pretty landscape picture which is enjoyed by those who pick the grapes by hand. This terrain is demanding, but it's also the ideal place to expose the most interesting characteristics of indigenous grapes like Garnacha, Cariñena as well as international varieties including Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot.
The BRAVO-ESCOS family has a long-standing tradition of ranching and agriculture in several parts of the world. We started our love affair with working with land in Uruguay, where we owned and run several cattle ranches. As we learned about working with land, we naturally progressed to wine making, where we start by running a small cellar. We say naturally, because our love for wine stems from our grand-parents appreciation for those small details that can make every day a special day. Wine has always been a part of our family activities, be it business, be it social and even our meals. Wine is something we talk about and share among our family members, with great friends and with good people. Wine making is something we are very passionate about, and that resonates greatly with every generation.
In 2016 we had the opportunity to expand our passion for wine crafting into the old continent. Family connections brought us to El Priorato in Spain. Wine making has been a staple of life here since the 12th century, when French Carthusian Monks established vineyard planting techniques turning this rocky and remote region of the Iberian peninsula into the cradle of intense and flavorful reds, that many wine writers and collectors consider to be Spain's most elite wines.
Our family vineyard is located in the heart of the El Priorato region, near a sleepy town called Torroja del Priorat.
Since establishing our based in El Priorato, we have been busy developing an artisan approach to wine making, as to ensure we deliver the best tasting wine that the vineyards can provide.
Thanks to the warm, moderate climate; with abundant sunlight during midday, chilly evenings, and foggy early mornings, the vineyards yield fruit that offers concentrated, lush aromas and flavors. Our family prides itself in allowing these healthy, beautiful vineyards speak for themselves.
The resulting wines reflect the consistency found on these singular vineyard sites - clean, rich, long aromas and flavors. El Priorato wines typically tend to mature beautifully, eventually giving up those lively flavors of youth for the smoky elegance and layered flavors of age.
We have learned to love the land we work with. We have learned to hone our processes through hard work, education and hours of enjoying the fruit of our labor with family and friends.
We are excited to welcome you into our vineyard and we cannot wait to share our passion with you!
